ARTIST STATEMENT

I’m a visual artist working across sculpture, installation, painting and photography. My art celebrates death and rebirth, as well as the interplay of shadows and sparks in life. It is entirely a mental interpretation that arises from reality, responding to the experiences of isolated queer identities and attempt to seek connection. I explore how objects can embody the power in human memories and emotions. Through the construction and assembly of materials like plaster, steel, and aluminium, my sculptures - characterised by sexually textured and simplified approach - reflect the darkness I once felt.

The subject matter of my work centres around critical issues such as addiction, identity recognition, LGBTQ+ rights, and resistance to patriarchy. While my work doesn't aim to cure illnesses or save lives, it serves as a means of healing, at least my wounds for the time being, better yet to make it clear that scars could also be aesthetical.

As my art practice progresses, I aspire for the new era will increasingly reflect hope and love, even as it currently leans towards the dark side. I hope my art shines a light in this seemingly hopeless place, believing that paradise is not merely a destination, but a state of being carried in our hearts. To quote my all-time favourite artist, Derek Jarman:

For our allotted time is passing of a shadow
And our lives will run like
Sparks through the stubble.
